Original assignment ideas
Ask for evidence that matches the work.
These short exercises are starting points. Adapt them to the actual role, set a reasonable time limit, and tell candidates what you will score. Ask about experience and work samples first.
| Role | Ask the recruiter | Stage 1 evidence | Stage 2 task | Score |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Backend engineering intern | Language, stack, production expectations? | Repository link, personal contribution, a bug they fixed. | Implement a small API endpoint and two tests; explain an error case. | Correctness, tests, clarity, security basics. |
| Frontend engineering intern | Framework, accessibility standards, design system? | Live UI or source link and personal contribution. | Build a responsive form with validation and keyboard support. | Usability, accessibility, code quality. |
| Growth marketing intern | Audience, channel, budget, key metric? | A campaign or experiment and how it was measured. | Use a fictional funnel table to propose one experiment and measurement plan. | Hypothesis, prioritization, metric choice. |
| Lifecycle marketing intern | CRM, lifecycle stage, channels, compliance? | Segmentation or email example; QA process. | Draft a two-message onboarding sequence, segments, QA list, and metric. | Relevance, measurement, QA. |
| Sales development representative | ICP, geography, product, qualification rules? | Research example, outreach sample, CRM practice. | Research a fictional account, write a tailored opener and three discovery questions. | Fit, personalization, qualification, record quality. |
| Product management intern | Product area, user, constraints, available data? | User research or product decision example. | Use a fictional drop-off chart and interview notes to frame an experiment. | User reasoning, prioritization, metrics. |
| Customer success associate | Segment, support channels, escalation rules? | A diagnosis and customer communication example. | Respond to a fictional issue and write an internal handoff. | Empathy, diagnosis, ownership. |
Questions your agent should ask
- What should the candidate see as the organization and recruiter names?
- What work will this person actually do, and where?
- Which resume, portfolio, or project material should be required?
- What evidence counts for each criterion, and what is the minimum?
- What 30–45 minute task mirrors the work fairly?
- Who interviews, in which time zone and hours?
- What tone should candidate emails use?
Research basis
The original exercises above reflect common duties in public descriptions for sales development, lifecycle marketing, and growth product, frontend engineering, and customer success. Verify live requirements with the recruiter; postings can change.
